Fasting in Ramadhan.

Describes sawm, the third pillar of Islam. Muslims explain how it feels to fast, and what they do it. They explain how it can bring them a sense of peace, develop self-control and help them to empathise with suffering and starving people.

The month of Ramadhan is a great month. It is the month in which is Allah revealed the Quran as a guidance for the whole of mankind. It is the month in which Allah gave the muslims victory in their first and greatest battle at Badr. It is the month which has Lailatur Qadar, a night which is better than a thousand months. In Ramadhan the gates of Heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are shut, and the Satan (devils) are tied up and the reward for good deeds, acts of charity and acts of worship are multiplied in this month.

Ramadhan ends with a day long celebration known as Eidul-Fitri. Eidul-Fitri begins with a special morning prayer in grand Mosques and open grounds of towns and cities of the world. The prayer is attended by men, women, and children with their new or best clothes. A special charity, known as Zakatul Fitr is given out prior to the prayer. The rest of the day is spent in visiting relatives and friends, giving a 'duit raya' to children and eating.
